I explored my interest in sculpture and architecture as I attended the 'Introduction to Byzantine Architecture' course. It influenced my ideas for the submitted piece of work. A hand made silk dress with crochet design inspired by the Byzantine panel referenced above. This handmade silk dress with crochet design is inspired by a plaster panel with Byzantine design. It is influenced by Victorian dressmakers and the ways in which they exhibited their skills. Hand stitching like crochet and sculpture is a rhythmic process, which allows me as an artist to create a 3-D like relief used to produce the crocheted embellishment and the hand pleated silk dress.
