I wanted to create something which was attractive but also functional; an object d'Art. I find the smooth simple lines of this Chinese jade horse wonderful. It's breathtakingly beautiful and skillfully made, yet there's invention in its depiction; it's eyes and mouth and muzzle are stylised and it could almost be the figure head from a Viking long ship. I wanted to design a piece which would bring it right up to a present-day use so I've laid it on a bed of rich colour and kept it's flow lines simple and arranged it in a roundel pattern as a paper weight.
