Anodised Aluminium Necklace - Brian Whitewick

Brian Whitewick
The inspiration for my necklace is drawn from an Iron elevator grill for the Chicago stock exchange, design by Louis Henry Sullivan. My piece is in Anodised Aluminium which has been sublimation printed (heat transfer printed) with the design inspired by the grill.
Having attended courses in Colouring Aluminium at Morley, this seemed an ideal opportunity to put into practice what I had learnt.
My initial research consisted of photographs of the Elevator grill, one of these was manipulated through Apps: on an iPad, playing with density and the number of layers and colours, once I was happy with the design, it was printed on to sublimation paper which I then printed on to the pre Anodised Aluminium sheet. I created double layered units of printed Aluminium with tube rivets for spacers, which are interspersed with steel beads, the necklace is finished with a magnetic clasp.
